Ray & Mike's Deli

Really disappointed in this purchase. We ventured out of our area for a nice change. We chose them based on the great reviews but we definitely can’t say the same. The chicken cutlets are frozen patties, the “Deluxe” combo was anything but deluxe, maybe 5 pieces of meat and no pickles as ordered. I’d hate to see what the regular combo looks like. The best part of our order was the store bought coleslaw and tortellini salad, $4.99 each for 6oz of product in an 8oz container. One reviewer said it’s the best deli in New Haven county.....that’s not saying much for new Haven deli’s. Do yourselves a favor and go up to Carbone’s so you see what an actual deli is. Next time we’ll just stick to Goldie’s right down the street and save the $75. Sorry guys.

If I could give more than 5 stars...I would. Stopped in today for the first time in years as I was passing through. I first ate here back in 2001 while attending Quinnipiac. Loved it then. Still do. I ordered a Buffalo chicken cutlet sandwich. It was as good today as I remembered. Great portion size and very reasonable price. My only issue is I can't eat here more often as I do not live anywhere nearby lol

I had heard of this place from a friend a while back when we were talking about good delis in the area, so one day I decided to finally check it out. The first time I went, I got a chicken sandwich with Russian dressing that I thought was pretty good. The chicken was most likely frozen, but to their credit, they don't seem to be buying the low quality chicken that has a strange after taste or anything. The second time I planned on switching it up, but decided to get another chicken sandwich, this time with hot cherry pepper relish on it, and it tasted great. At this point I was getting curious to try something else to see if I was just getting a full picture of what the place was like, so the third time I went, I got something called the Wright Burger. I gotta say, when it comes to "burger subs" I always feel underwhelmed, but something about this one hit the spot. It's about what you want out of something like this. Thin, greasy patties with melted cheese and fried onions. I had planned on eating half and saving the rest for my girlfriend, but I ended up finishing it all myself. I tend to not give out five stars if I can help it, but Ray & Mike's is a special case. The place is a bit shabby inside and out, and the food isn't pretentious, but that's what you want. The prices are fair and the food tastes pretty good. I can always appreciate a place that doesn't try to be something it's not.
